The Britpop band Oasis rose from obscurity to become the most popular U.K.-based rock band of the mid-1990s. Formed in Manchester in 1991 as the Rain by Liam Gallagher, the group soon fell under the leadership of Liam's older brother Noel, who agreed to join the band if he could have complete control of the group, including contributing all the songs; the rest of the band agreed and under the new name Oasis, they began a year of intensive rehearsing. When Creation Records supremo Alan McGee saw them at a club gig in Glasgow, they had no manager, no agent and no money. Just greatness. He signed them on the spot. From the release of their first album 'Definitely Maybe' in 1994 to the massive concerts at Wembley in 2000, Oasis have remained the indisputable world champions of rock'n'roll.
