Want to be?
--- The Song---
close your eyes so you don't feel them
they don't need to see you cry
i can't promise i will heal you
but if you want to i will try
i'll sing this sombre serenade
the past is done we've been betrayed it's true
someone said the truth will out
i believe without a doubt in you
you were there for summer dreaming
and you gave me what i need
and i hope you find your freedom
for eternity
for eternity
yesterday when we were walking
you talked about your ma and dad
what they did that made you happy
what they did that made you sad
we sat and watched the sun go down
then picked a star before we lost the moon
youth is wasted on the young
before you know it's come and gone too soon
you were there for summer dreaming
and you gave me what i need
and i hope you find your freedom
for eternity
for eternity
you were there for summer dreaming
and you are a friend indeed
and i hope you find your freedom
eventually
you were there for summer dreaming
and you gave me what i need
and i know you'll find your freedom
eventually
for eternity
--- About the song ---
"eternity" is one of the many songs written by robbie williams and guy
chambers. it was
released as a single in the uk at the 9th of july 2001, as a double a-side with his last
single of his sing when you're winning album, "road to mandalay". the song itself
isn't available in any of his albums, as it is some sort of spontaneus bonus
in-between-album song, as we know robbie has a habit of making. it would,
however, later be
included in the various repacked/tour versions of sing when you're winning.
the double a-side single inevitably went to number one, and was one of the most memorable
summer ballad in 2001. he then brought it on for his world tour in that autumn. there are
two available versions out there, the 'full length' version, and the 'orchestral'
version.
rumours has it that the song had been written about robbie's then girlfriend, geri
halliwell.
whether it was true or not, it sure boasted the sales.
the video clip for road to mandalay and eternity are sequenced with eternity picking up
where road to mandalay left off. both videoclips were taken from robbie's 18-minute short
film titled rob by nature.
